BOSH’s UAS Training to feature Boeing/Insitu’s ScanEagle
March 17, 2010
BOSH Global Services announced today that its 2010 United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) training would feature Boeing/Insitu's ScanEagle, the small catapult-launched UAS used in various U.S. overseas contingency operations since August 2004. The ScanEagle, which replaces the Viking 300 in the training program, will introduce an added element of realism to the course.
BOSH's USAFA cadet UAS training program opened its doors last year, becoming the first course of its kind at a U.S. military service academy. In addition to combat-scenario based UAS operations, the course features instruction in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), and Air and Space Operations Center (AOC) operations. Colonel Dean Bushey, USAFA Program Director, stated that as the program grew it "placed demands on our contractors to add depth, realism, excitement and knowledge to the course to respond to the growing needs. This has included the introduction of command and control functions, ground force scenarios, remote video displays and more complex training scenarios."
Since developing the inaugural USAFA course, BOSH now also supports a Small UAS schoolhouse at Choctaw Field, Florida, where it similarly trains Air Force Battlefield Airmen and special operators on their way to overseas combat zones. The BOSH Special Operations and Aviation Services (SAS) Division which oversees these training services also has UAS mission coordinators embedded with several deployed U.S. units.
