UAV Comm awarded a multi-million, multi-year contract with the Texas Air National Guard (TXANG)
Newport News, Va., Feb 22, 2008 -- UAV Communications (UAV Comm), Inc. a service provider for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles/Systems (UAV/S) technology and consulting announced today that it has been awarded a multi-million, multi-year contract with the Texas Air National Guard (TXANG). UAV Comm will provide UAV Subject Matter Expertise, System Administration, and Communications support to the TX ANG activation of a Predator Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) squadron at Ellington Field JRB. This support will focus on developing a tailored Predator RPA communications and video distribution architecture for the TXANG and supported Combatant Commands (COCOM). UAV Comm will leverage and integrate legacy system capabilities using Air Force and Department of Defense standards for communications systems in developing an architecture that seamlessly integrates TXANG infrastructure and systems.
This effort is part of the integration effort to bring approximately 450 new Air National Guard jobs to the Houston area. The squadron will be assigned to the 147th Fighter Wing, commanded by Col. Lanny B. McNeely. Colonel McNeely will be responsible for the integration of the capability at Ellington Field, which is expected to enhance both U.S. military capability worldwide and to aid in Homeland Security missions aimed at preventing terrorist attacks here at home.
Current plans call for 12 total aircraft. The remotely piloted vehicles will be supported by two fixed ground control stations, a mobile ground control station, secure communication links, and three launch and recovery ground control stations. The unit will also operate a training simulator. The three-phased program is expected to be fully equipped and outfitted by 2009.
UAV Comm currently provides similar service to the California ANG, North Dakota ANG, Arizona ANG, the Join UAS Center of Excellence, US Central Command-Air Force, and the US Special Operations Command.
President and CEO of UAV Comm, Bob Fitzgerald said “As part of ongoing Future Total Force initiatives, our company and people look forward to providing the TX ANG with superb service and expertise.”
As the Air Force evolves, this important transformational mission represents another example of the Air National Guard leveraging the unique talents of its units and Airmen to provide support to global operations with its Total Force partners – the Air Force and Air Force Reserve.
